“ “ Close Up provides experiences that can’t be replicated in the classroom. My students always return home excited and interested in legislation and its impact on their lives. —Taylor, Teacher, ND WHO WE ARE Close Up is the nation’s premier nonprofit, nonpartisan civic education organization.  Since 1971, over 900,000 students and teachers have participated on our experiential learning programs, and many more have enhanced their curriculum using Close Up’s innovative classroom resources. WHAT WE DO At Close Up, we believe young people are essential to American democracy. Our programs are designed to provide them with the knowledge and skills they need to be informed and active citizens. Students who come on Close Up return home inspired to get involved and empowered to further civil discourse in their communities. HOW WE DO IT Using DC as a living classroom, students come face-to-face with the people, institutions, and iconic sites that embody our nation’s past and present. As students explore our nation’s capital, they learn to answer the “question of the week”, which enhances their understanding of how government impacts their everyday lives.  Guided by our highly-trained instructors, students live and learn in the nation’s capital with their peers from across the country to witness history come to life, and ultimately equip them with the skills and attitudes they need for a lifetime of civic engagement.
